Your documents
The folders DocReview works on, file types, preparation and results.
Your folders
DocReview works on folders you already use: Documents, a project folder, a network share or a cloud-synced folder. Add one with Add folder… in the Workspace pane or in Settings → Workspaces, switch between them at the top of the pane, and remove one there (your files are not touched). DocReview never changes, moves or deletes your files.
File types
- Word (.docx, and .doc through LibreOffice): reviewed, with comments written into a copy.
- PDF, Excel (.xlsx, .xls), CSV, text and Markdown: read-only. They open for preview, and every file of the folder is a source the review can check facts against.
- Settings → Workspaces → Also read these extensions as plain text adds your own types (for example
log, ini, json).
Preparing a file
A file is read the first time you open it (converted to text, pictures described if a Vision model is chosen, indexed for search). The status bar shows Preparing file…; Cancel stops it, for example when a slow model takes too long; open the file again to prepare it. The status bar also counts the files of your folders.
Where results go
By default the reviewed Word file, the comment resolution sheet and the review record are saved in a DocReview folder next to each original. Settings → Workspaces → Results location sets one folder for all of them instead (Browse… picks it). Originals are never modified.
Cloud-synced folders
A file stored online only (OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive) shows a cloud badge. DocReview downloads it when you open it and never uses online-only files as sources on its own.
