Getting started with DocReview

From installation to your first ranked review in about ten minutes.

Installing

  • Windows: run the installer. If Windows says it protected your PC, choose More info → Run anyway (once).
  • macOS: open the disk image and drag DocReview to Applications. The first time, macOS cannot verify the app: choose Done, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Install LibreOffice for Word and Excel files.
  • Linux: make the AppImage executable and run it, or install the .deb with sudo apt install ./file.deb. LibreOffice Writer and Calc handle Word and Excel files.

Getting started

  1. Open DocReview. The setup guide starts on first launch (Help → Setup guide opens it again).
  2. Add a provider. A local model (Ollama or llama.cpp on your computer), a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or a cloud provider with your API key. Test lists its models. More
  3. Choose models. One for the Reviewer (finds the issues) and one for the Verifier (checks them); they can be the same. More
  4. Choose your documents folder. Any folder you work in. DocReview lists the Word, Excel, PDF and text files in it and prepares a file only when you open it. More
  5. Review. Open a document and choose AI Analysis. The reviewed copy appears in a DocReview folder next to the original; your original is never changed. More
